Le Boeuf Chardonnay 2021

We were thrilled in 2019 to discover the beautiful Le Boeuf Vineyard, a stunning site bordered by towering redwoods in Wilder Ranch State Park and planted in 1974 by renowned biologist Dr. Burney Le Boeuf, a pioneer in elephant seal research. Burney farmed this site for 45 years and is now our great privilege to farm this site, and we are bringing renewed vigor by rebudding the old root stock to heritage Mt. Eden and Old Wente selections, and using organic viticulture practices to get the best expression possible from the vines. These old vines reach down deep into the gently-sloped decomposed granite soils transmitting great complexity and structure only possible with such great vine age.
The 2021 vintage of this wine is first to showcase the new selections we introduced to this vineyard. This wine was fermented and aged for 12 months sur lie in barrel (20% new oak) and then spent six months aging sur lie in stainless steel. The wine has striking aroma of orange blossom and a beautiful mineral impression framed by a zingy acidity that is at once both refreshing and profound.
